Training is a key part of each member's participation. There are numerous ways for members to receive training.

PVFD conducts in-house training each Tuesday evening with a focus on EMS the first Tuesday of the month. Visitors are always welcome to observe on training nights.
For individuals with a Monday thru Friday 8-5 career who can't commit to a full time Fire Academy, Collin County Community College Fire Academy in McKinney, Texas has a certification program tailored to meet these schedules. Classes are usually held at 6:30pm on various Thursday nights followed by a Saturday. The program is broken up into Introduction, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. The training cost is funded through the Excellence Fund of Collin County for those that are on a fire department roster.
Many of the PVFD members go on to achieve their ECA (Emergency Care Attendant), EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician - Basic) and EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic). Initial EMS training is obtained though community college programs as well as private schools in the area. Parker contracts our ambulance service with East Texas Medical Center (ETMC) as do the surrounding cities of Wylie and Lucas. PVFD responds to all emergencies in the city as a State of Texas First Responder organization.
